Karen Nolan
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF MATHS
Karen trained in the Republic of Ireland and moved to the UK ten years ago to teach and is in her in my fifth year teaching at Ryburn. She is currently doing an NPQLT focusing on teacher development.
In Maths, Karen approach is to teach our students about the why and not just the how. She wants students to feel confident in their abilities to feel a sense of accomplishment when leaving the maths classroom. Karen’s enthusiasm for the subject is infectious. She loves solving problems and wants to equip our pupils with the resilience and skills to sit with a problem and work through it. These skills transfer from maths to life in general so while we might be teaching them algebra we want them to be able to break things down into manageable steps so they know that they can tackle any problem they face whether that's a maths problem or something in their day to day life.
