Reading Routes

We are excited to announce the launch of our new initiative across the Together Learning Trust: Reading Routes, introduced at the start of the academic year, we aim to cultivate a love of reading among our students by guiding them through a range of genres and engaging stories. Reading Routes is designed to improve literacy, critical thinking, and overall success.

Reading Routes takes them on a literary journey through various genres over the course of the school year, starting with fantasy. Each student has received their first book, and we encourage parents and carers to support their child’s reading by discussing the stories and asking questions about the plot and characters. Students are also encouraged to bring their books to school, sparking discussions and building a shared enthusiasm for reading.

Research highlights that regular reading not only boosts literacy but also enhances critical thinking, empathy, and academic performance. Exposure to different genres helps students broaden their perspectives, build vocabulary, and engage with diverse viewpoints, supporting their growth as thoughtful, informed individuals.

This initiative, currently aimed at Year 7, will soon be expanded to include all of Key Stage 3. As students continue their journey through different genres, they will gain valuable insights and skills, strengthening their reading abilities and academic achievement.

We are building a strong reading culture across our Trust, one book at a time. Stay tuned for more updates as our students continue their reading journeys!
